About Glow: Glow is a professional opera, operetta and musical theatre company in charming Greenville, South Carolina that produces work in direct response to the social and political climate of the community.  Glow hires 125 actors, technicians, designers, management, and musicians each summer to produce 3 shows over a rigorous 7 weeks.

Position: Technical Director

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: June 11-August 3, 2022

Description: Glow produces two musicals and one opera during an intense and fast-paced 7 week production period. The shows run in rotating rep for the summer. The TD will be responsible for supervising and participating in the build of the rep season, supervising all build aspects,supervising daily/nightly set changeovers (sometimes two per day), budgeting the shows, communicating with designers, creating build drawings/schematics, and overseeing/managing the work hours and duties of the ATD/Master Carpenter, Carpenter, and Carpenter intern.  The TD is a leadership role that makes sure the scenic elements are on-time and on-budget. This position reports to the Production Manager and Executive Director. 

Duties: Engineer, construct, build and install and strike all scenic elements for the summer season, set up carpentry shops for beginning of season, communicating with Production Manager regarding any general shop and supplies needs, restore carpentry shops at the end of the season, including updating the stock item inventory paperwork, determine and meet scenic deadlines according to the production schedule set by the Production Manager, manage and supervise all load-in and strike dates, ensuring that anything borrowed or purchased returns to proper facilities at end of season, attend all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, previews and production meetings for notes, communicate regularly with Designers, Production Manager and Executive Director regarding budget tracking, design integrity, and notes, manage the budget and account for all scenic expenditures, including collection of receipts and invoices, attend four pre-season production meetings (beginning in March, may do so remotely), prepare necessary drawings/vectorworks, work with production manager and Artistic Director to supervise and assign running crew for each production, order,purchase, schedule delivery, or pick up necessary building materials, including equipment as needed, Order necessary trucks and dumpsters for load ins, strike and transportation of set.

Some experience working in repertory/summer stock, Skilled in CAD or Vectorworks, 1 year of Technical Direction Experience (can include summer stock/educational credits)mastery of wood and metal scenic construction and fabrication techniques and scenic engineering, ability to motivate, manage and coordinate staff members of varying skill levels. Ability to recognize, augment and/or fill in the gaps in the crew’s skill set.Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in high places,  Able to drive a 25’ box truck is a plus, ideal candidate would have a valid driver’s license and vehicle, their own computer to create drawings and manage paperwork, and their own set of basic tools. 

Compensation: $625/week with housing and travel included

Position: Carpenter/Changeover & Run Crew

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: June 13-August 3, 2022

Description: Works under the supervision of the Technical Director and Master Carpenter to construct the scenic elements for all shows in the season, including load in and strike.  Once build dates are through, this position shifts to Changeover and Run Crew for the duration of the festival season and for all performances.  

Duties: Woodworking, cutting, building, erecting, installing and striking  all scenic components using a variety of carpentry hand and power tools. Assist with load in of scenic elements including rigging and overhead scenery.  Assist and help coordinate scenic changeovers, scenic transitions during the runs of the performances, including making repairs to the set if needed. 

Requirements: Share with Glow a respect for our values of access, advocacy, diversity, prudence, professionalism and collaboration, daytime availability, prior experience in theatre scene shop, ability to read and follow direction, excellent woodworking and scenic skills, experience and skill in various types of scenic construction (wood, metal, plastics), knowledge of tools used in theatre scene shops, ability to work independently, ability to read and interpret drawings, and schematics. Ability to operate stationary power equipment (table saw, mortise machine, planer, jointer,sander, lathe, radial armsaw, drill press, band saw, tenon machine) and hand-held electric tools (saws, planes, router, drills, jackhammer,grinder, sanders, etc.); ability to use hand tools and welding equipment.

Compensation: Glow pays on a weekly, tiered contract basis. Tier one receives between $200-$500 per week. Tier 2 receives between $100-$300 per week. Housing and travel is provided for out of town candidates. 

Position: Assistant Stage Manager

Dates: June 13-August 3, 2022

Description/Duties: The Assistant Stage Manager assists the Stage Manager with all responsibilities during the season. This position is the Assistant Stage Manager for two of the rep shows.

Duties: Attending production meetings, running rehearsals, clerical organization, taping out floorpans, pulling/organizing rehearsal props/furniture, preparing the rehearsal space, notating blocking, being on book, running the deck during all tech rehearsals and performances, training run crew, and assisting the SM with strike duties. 

Requirements: Share with Glow a respect for our values of access, advocacy, diversity, prudence, professionalism and collaboration, Daytime Availability, Demonstrated experience in Assistant Management or Stage Management work, good organizational skills, able to create paperwork, respectful manner and good interpersonal skills, able to handle pressure well, leadership skills, good problem solving, takes direction well.

Position: Costume Designer

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. Costume designers will be considered for designing one show or multiple shows. 

Dates: June 11-July 28, 2022.

Description: The Costume Designer will oversee the design and implementation of the design, including construction, fittings, preparation, repair and maintenance of costumes. This involves the total look of the actor including accessories, jewelry, wigs, hair, and makeup, and props considered wearable. Costume Designers also serve as an assistant or first hand for whichever shows they are not designing. 

Duties: Meet with the Director and production team to determine the concept within which all artists will work., analyze the script and determine the costume needs of a production, Provide research, Sketch ideas, revise and render them for Director’s and  production team’s approval. Provide working drawings as necessary for use in costume construction, meet all scheduled design deadlines, read rehearsal reports and create list of rehearsal clothes and other costume requirements from the Stage Manager, oversee the cleanliness and organization of the shop during build/performances/strike, oversee the schedule, work lists, laundry, quick changes and direction of the stitchers and wardrobe crew during build, tech and performances, prepare an itemized checklist of all costume items and how they will be obtained, including detailed paperwork of what items have been borrowed, rented, pulled, purchased and built, participate in and collaborate on scheduling all costume fittings with the Stage manager, provide detail to the actors on hair/make-up designs, provide costume plots for all character tracks, assign and organize dressing rooms, including research images if necessary, make all purchases of fabrics, garments, and construction materials needed for the production, arrange, with wardrobe crew,  the return of all pieces borrowed or rented for the production at strike, assist the other designer in completing and constructing their design, oversee the preparation of all rehearsal clothes, attend designer run-throughs, dress parade, dress rehearsals, and production meetings (both pre-season and during build and after dress rehearsals, keep a running balance of the costume budget at all times. Remain within the allotted costume budget through the Divvy system, and record receipts digitally through Divvy, get approval from the Executive Director, in advance, for necessary purchases which exceed the allotted budget. 

Requirements: Share with Glow a respect for our values of access, advocacy, inclusion, prudence, professionalism and collaboration, daytime & nighttime availability, knowledge of modern principles, techniques, and methods used in costume and wardrobe design, creation, fabrication, color, sewing and tailoring, alterations and execution for theatrical productions, ability to plan for casts of  up to 25-30 people, skill in the use of a variety of clothing manufacturing machinery and tools related to costume design and construction including but not limited to: sewing machines, industrial irons and presses, in-depth knowledge of safety procedures with all machinery, knowledge of computer programs including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook,), sufficient human relations skill to train and guide stitchers and wardrobe crew, ability to fabricate and manufacture custom items to meet specialized needs, ability to maintain accurate records and paperwork, ability to coordinate and monitor multiple projects and work assignments/priorities, ability to monitor and maintain assigned budget(s). 

Compensation: $1,500 flat fee, housing & travel included.

Position: Stitcher/Wardrobe Crew

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: June 13-August 3, 2022

Description: Assists the Costume Designers in the creation of costume designs for three productions, including cutting and sewing fabrics, completing alternation and construction projects, shopping for costume pieces and accessories, attending fittings and taking notes, serving as wardrobe staff/crew during all performances, maintaining  costumes during and directly after performance period including repairs, laundry, dry cleaning, and assisting with storage/return of costumes.

Requirements: Share with Glow a respect for our values of access, advocacy, diversity, prudence, professionalism and collaboration,  Daytime Availability, Demonstrated experience in machine and hand sewing techniques, garment construction skills, able to follow precise instructions in a timely manner

Position: Audio Engineer II

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: July 5-August 3, 2022. 

Description: The A2 is  responsible for amplifying, mixing, recording, syncing, and reproducing sounds and effects for all technical rehearsals and productions in the season. They are responsible looking over equipment, checking connections, mixing performances, and assisting the A1 and actors with all sound and microphone needs.

Duties: Watch and take notes on designer runs, assist the A1 with paperwork and cue preparations, prepare soundboards and equipment for shows, maintain the quality of sound throughout a performance, set up microphones on performers and in various places in the theater, checking sound levels and equipment functionality, running sound checks, and other tasks using production equipment, repairing and troubleshooting sound equipment,attend meetings with the A1 before rehearsals and help organize cues to perfect the order of execution for effects, music, and other sounds.

Requirements: Share with Glow a respect for our values of access, advocacy, inclusion, prudence, professionalism and collaboration, daytime & nighttime availability, reliable transportation, housing in Upstate SC, fundamental knowledge in studio recording, digital audio workstations, microphone techniques, and signal techniques, at least one year of hands on experience working/mixing on productions, ability to quickly problem solve, approachable, ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain a positive attitude. 

Compensation: Glow pays on a weekly, tiered contract basis. Tier one receives between $200-$500 per week. Tier 2 receives between $100-$300 per week. Housing and travel is provided for out of town candidates. 

Position: Master Electrician/Light Board Operator

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: July 5-August 3, 2022

Description: The master electrician, under the supervision of the lighting designer, implements the lighting design. They are directly responsible for the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of all lighting equipment and the supervision of the crews who hang, focus, and run the lighting equipment.

Duties: Consult with the Production Manager and Lighting Designer to work within budget guidelines,create cost-effective plans for electrics install and strike ,Inventory and repair and maintenance of all lighting fixtures, cables, effects, power distribution, dimmers, networking and lighting control consoles, Organization and purchasing of all consumables including color gel, gobos, Sharpies, and gaffer tape, Planning and implementing of the cabling (circuiting) of lights and electric power distribution, Documenting and tracking of all circuiting, addressing, and system configuration in cooperation with the Lighting Designer, Patching assignments of the control console based on the paperwork generated by the lighting designer and the planned circuiting., Maintaining safe practices for crew Coordinate maintenance, load in, focus, and notes calls,Collaborate with the lighting designer, director and theater staff to effectively execute the lighting design.

Daytime Availability, Have a minimum of 1-3 three years’ management experience in theatrical electrics or equivalent, Have strong team building and management skills, Have the ability to navigate smoothly through high pressure situations, Be proficient in Vectorworks and Lightwright, Have experience and/or professional-level training with a variety of lighting equipment, including Colortran instruments, ETC products and TOURnados, Be comfortable working at heights and be able to lift 50 pounds, have good time management & punctuality.

Position: Electrician/Spot Operator

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: July 5-August 3, 2022

Description: The electrician will set up, troubleshoot, operate and breakdown lighting equipment for the Festival Season, as well as operate spot light during performances.  

Duties: install (hang), point and shape the beam (focus), and connect to power (circuit) lighting instruments., add gels, gobos and accessories., Preparing and Packing, transporting lighting equipment and gear, proper hang and focus of conventional, LED and intelligent lighting fixtures, Running cable neatly, safely and efficiently, Patch fixtures and dimmers into a variety of consoles, making repairs on damaged equipment, serving as spot operator during technical rehearsals and performances, assisting ME and Lighting Designer with strike duties. 

Requirements: Share with Glow a respect for our values of access, advocacy, diversity, prudence, professionalism and collaboration, Daytime Availability,  Minimum of 1 year of experience working with lighting equipment or serving on electrics crew, familiarity with variety of consoles and lighting fixtures, ability to lift 50 pounds, be comfortable working at heights, possess ability to work under pressure, calm demeanor and positive attitude, punctual and dependable.

Position: Props Designer

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: June 11-August 3, 2022

Description: Responsible for obtaining all props needed for the production, including appropriate rehearsal props for the first day of rehearsal. Attends production meetings before and during the season, meets production deadlines and expectations for research packets and proposed budgets, creates a props list, and then pulls, purchases or builds each property needed, providing organized and itemized paperwork.  Assists the Scenic Designer with set dressing/furniture pulling, responsible for loading in, setting up and organizing prop tables in rehearsal and performance space, communicating proper handling of props to Stage Manager and actors, maintaining/fixing props throughout the show run, replenishing any consumables, and strikes props, returning them to storage or from where they were borrowed/rented. Guides and assigns duties to Props Assistant, including scheduling hours. Record and keep up with purchases and receipts through the Divvy system.  Purchases exceeding the allotted props budget must be cleared and given permission by the Executive Director.

Position: Scenic Charge

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: Flexible availability between June 13-July 28, 2022, Hours can be generally be based on employee’s schedule. 

Description: Under the supervision of and in collaboration with the Technical Director and Scenic Designer, the position is responsible for prepping, painting, texturing and finishing the Festival’s scenery and props. 

Duties: Prepares base paints/backpaints, paints, and textures scenery in conjunction with scene shop and prop department, interprets drawings, blueprints, renderings and elevations for paint needs, communicates and collaborates with designers, scene shop and props department heads, maintains shop; stocks and mixes paint needed for scenery and props for assigned shows, touches up and/or repaints scenery and props as needed throughout technical rehearsals.

Requirements: Share with Glow a respect for our values of access, advocacy, diversity, prudence, professionalism and collaboration, Daytime & Evening Availability, Ability to draw, plaster/texture, paint, and sculpt using scenic art techniques and methods such as faux painting, tromp l’oeil, distressing, aging, etc. Excellent color matching skills. Ability to execute paint treatments within a schedule, be comfortable working at heights, possess ability to work under pressure, calm demeanor and positive attitude, punctual and dependable. 

Compensation: $12/hour, 15 hour minimum

Position: Props Intern

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: June 13-August 3, 2022

Description: Assists the props designer in obtaining all props needed for the productions, including appropriate rehearsal props for the first day of rehearsal. Maintains and records paperwork for the props designer of borrows, pulls, and budgets. Assists in builds, borrows and purchases of props. Communicates with props designer during the run of shows providing updates on consumables and maintenance of props. Assists with setting up and organizing props tables in the rehearsal and performance space.  Assists with striking of props and props return.

Position: Production Assistant

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: June 13-August 3, 2022

Description: The production assistant assists the Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager with all responsibilities. This can include clerical organization, taping out floorpans, pulling/organizing rehearsal props/furniture, preparing the rehearsal space, being on book, signing in actors/calling actors for rehearsals, running the deck during tech rehearsals and performances, serving on run crew during tech rehearsals/performances and assisting with strike duties.

Position: Carpenter Intern/Changeover & Run Crew 

for Glow’s 2022 Season of Elton John’s Aida, Classic Broadway: Songs of the Golden Age, and Frances Pollock’s new opera Stinney: An American Execution at the Kroc Center in Downtown Greenville, SC. 

Dates: June 13-August 3, 2022

Description: The scenic carpenter works under the supervision of the Technical Director and Master Carpenter to construct scenic elements for all the shows in the season.

Position: Glow Summer House Management and Development Internship

Qualifications Needed:

  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Willingness to work with others.
  • Strong Event Planning and Management Skills

Overall Tasks:

  • Bringing new creative ideas in pre-show events and decoration.
  • Helping execute development and donor plans formulated by staff.
  • Assist in donor thank you letters.
  • Assist in box office management and ticket sales during office hours.
  • Assist in house management during performances.
  • Man the Donation table in the lobby. 
  • Assist in reaching out to find new partners for auction items
  • Schedule and check-ins with pre-show and gala partners.
  • Work within our donor and ticketing data-base to pull and organize data for Glow to use in development.
  • Prepare theatre for performances (print reserved signs, create pre-show emails etc…)
  • Assist with managing volunteers.
  • Assist in day to day tasks including poster canvassing, theatre clean up and set up etc…
