Join the Summer Festival at Glow’s 2019 Summer Season!

By Lillie Kieken

(Greenville SC) Running July 18th- August 3rd at The Warehouse Theatre, Glow Lyric Theatre’s 9th Annual Summer Festival features Carol Hall’s hilarious comedy The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s adored classic My Fair Lady, and Georges Bizet’s thrilling opera Carmen! The courageous as well as the sometimes scary and unknown situations faced by these female characters inspired Glow’s 2019 theme “Show Me”, highlighting both the positive to the negative experiences that women face in all walks of life, while showing them fight to gain independence, respect, and freedom.

In a unique Festival format, Glow runs its productions simultaneously, allowing audiences to attend all three shows in one weekend. With several special pre-show events and activities peppered throughout, Glow’s summer season has become known as a destination festival attracting both local and regional audiences.

Kicking off the season festival is the high-spirited and witty comedy The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Carol Hall’s uproarious tale is based on the true story of the Texas Chicken Ranch, a brothel located in La Grange, Texas. Next, come dance all night with Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s beloved musical, My Fair Lady, the story of the cunning Eliza who eventually outsmarts and gains control from Professor Higgins while growing in respectability. Finally catch George Bizet’s irresistible and pulse-pounding opera, Carmen. Watch Carmen struggle to find stability and fight her way out of a troublesome relationship while still burning a flame for freedom, fun, and prosperity.

Closing out the incredible season is “After Glow”, Glow’s end of the season gala and the party of the summer!  “After Glow” is on August 4th and features a cabaret performance with Glow’s favorite performers, a silent auction, delicious local catering provided by The Cooking Shop, and Reeves Catering, and an open bar!

Glow’s celebrates the season sponsors, Carolina Alliance Bank and Rolling Green Retirement Community with pre-show receptions that are open to the public. Banquet spreads include food from Abanico Tapas Bar and Restaurant, Reeves Catering, and Whole Foods Market. Glow is thrilled to have so much support from the Greenville community to make the Summer Festival a fantastic experience for locals and visitors alike.
