AVAILABLE ROLES:

Radames: an Egyptian Captain and the son of Zoser; a strong, adventurous soldier who falls in love with Aida and dreams of forging his own path in life. Pop/Rock tenor. All Ethnicities. G5- B3 (optional A4). TW: This role performs violence, slurs, acts of bigotry, and acts of intimacy. Age: 20-30

 

Amneris: an Egyptian Princess who is the betrothed of Captain Radames; daughter of the Pharaoh who transforms from materialistic into an intelligent and powerful leader of Egypt;  Pop-belt, strong dancer, All Ethnicities. F5- E3. TW: This role witnesses violence, enslavement, and performs slurs, acts of bigotry. Age: 20-30

 

Mereb: a young and mischievous Nubian slave and servant to Radames; he is faithful to his Nubian heritage and befriends Aida upon her arrival to Egypt; cleverly uses his position to plot the escape of the Nubian King, pop tenor, Black/African Descent. Bb5-G3.  TW: This role is the target/subject of violence and death. Performs fight choreography and potentially intimacy (kiss). Age: 15-20 

 

Nehebka: a Nubian slave who is friendly with Aida and sacrifices her own life to save her. Doubles in ensemble. Strong Dancer. Black/African Descent. E5- A3 TW: This role is the subject/target of violence and death.  Age: 20-35

 

Nubian Ensemble: play various roles, strong dancers, considering all voice types, body types,  ages, abilities, ages, Black/African Descent  TW: These roles may be the subject of/target of violence, acts of bigotry, and enslavement.

 

Egyptian Ensemble:  play various roles; strong dancers, considering all voice types, body types, abilities, ages,  All Ethnicities  TW: These roles may perform violence, acts of bigotry and enslavement. They may have fight choreography.

Betty June Binnicker: an eleven year old girl (may be cast as adult). Voice type: Soubrette.  TW: This role is the subject/target of simulated sexual violence and murder.

 

George Stinney Jr: a 14 year old boy. Speaking Role. This role must be portrayed by an actor of Black/African-American/African descent. TW: This role is the subject/target of simulated racial violence and murder, death/violence threats, slurs, and acts of bigotry. This role performs racial language. 

 

Mary Emma Thames: an eight year old girl (may be cast as adult). Voice type: Soubrette. TW: This role is the subject/target of simulated sexual violence and murder. This role performs racial language.

 

Barbara Thames: Mary Emma’s Mother. Voice type: Mezzo-Soprano, doubles as chorus. TW: This role performs fight choreography/violence

 

Dean Clarkson: corrupt policeman. Voice type: Tenor, doubles as chorus. TW: The role performs acts of bigotry, racial slurs, fight choreography/violence, racial language and threats of violence.

 

Ed Wall: lead policeman. Voice type: Baritone, doubles as chorus. TW: This role performs racial language and fight choreography/violence.

 

Frank Spearman: elderly policeman. Voice Type: Baritone, doubles as chorus. TW: This role performs racial language and fight choreography/violence.

 

Alma Stinney: George’s mother. Voice Type: Mezzo-Soprano. This role must be portrayed by a singer of Black/African-American/African descent. TW: This role is the subject/target of simulated sexual violence, death threats, racial slurs and fight/intimacy choreography.

 

Bill Martin: electric chair technician. Voice type: Baritone, doubles as chorus. TW: This role performs language about death/murder, racial slurs and language associated with sexual assault. 

 

Chorus, Townspeople & Soloists: Voice Types: Soprano, Mezzo, Tenor, Baritone. All Ethnicities. TW: The Chorus Men perform simulated sexual violence, murder and racial language. TW: The Chorus Women perform fight choreography/violence.
