L’enfant prodigue (The Prodigal Son) is a scène lyrique or cantata in one act by Claude Dubussy eith a text by Eduoard Guinand. The cantata premiered in Paris in the 27th of July in 1884 to great success and Debussy won the Prix de Rome or the composition. The prize win garnered Debussy a scholarship to the Académie des Beaux-Arts which included a four-year residence at the Villa Medici the French Academy on Rome o further his studies (1885-1887). Although the work was composed as a cantata it is often presented as a one-act opera, as it will be by GLOW Lyric Theatre. The production stars Metropolitan Opera tenor, Hugo Vera as Azael (seen last year in GLOW’s Carmen), and GLOW’s General Director, Christian Elser as Simeon. It will be stage directed by GLOW Artistic Director, Jenna Tamisiea.
