Frank Baum wrote The Wizard of Oz to be a story about the American Dream, and the coming of age of a strong, imaginative young woman. Adapted to be told perspective of a contemporary 12 year old African-American girl, The Wiz shows us that the American Dream is not something that is owned by any particular race or gender. The Wiz debuted on Broadway in 1975, winning seven Tony Awards, including “Best Musical.” It was subsequently released in 1978 as a motion picture starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. Hits include: “Ease on down the road,” “Everybody rejoice” and “Home.” It’s great fun for the whole family. Stage directed by Jenna Tamisiea. Music directed by Christian Elser.
